THE YESS AWARD 2023 IS OPEN!
The YESS Award (Young Energy Storage Scientist Award) is an annual competition which rewards an outstanding young researcher/scientist in the field of electrochemical energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors…). It has been created by the French initiative on electrochemical energy storage (RS2E) headed by Prof. Jean-Marie Tarascon and Prof. Patrice Simon. The first edition took place in 2015.

The RS2E changes its formula: from now on, there will be one laureate, who will be rewarded a check of 15.000€.
The previous laureates
Among numerous candidates to the YESS Award 2020, Simon Fleischmann, former post-doctorate in the team of Prof. Veronica Augustyn at North Carolina State University, was selected as laureate for proposing the most personal and innovative project. It was about the understanding of the transition between Faradaic and electric double layer charge storage phenomena. The jury also highlighted the remarkable professional career of Mr. Fleischmann. He is now leading his own research project in Toulouse in Prof. Patrice Simon's team.

« I am honored to have won the YESS Award 2016. This award captures the essence of my work governed by three of my passions- the electrochemistry, the material science, and the development of operando techniques."
Claire Villevieille
“I am absolutely delighted to receive the 2015 YESS Award from RS2E. This is the first award I have received and I - along with the rest of my team - am truly honored that our ideas and the potential impact of our research are recognized through this price. "

YESS AWARD 2019 : Marie Francine Lagadec, towards safer and cheaper batteries
In 2019, the first prize was awarded to Marie-Francine LAGADEC, post-doctoral fellow at the Collège de France for her personal and innovative project. It was about developing Li-ion cells with internal electrical protection that could pave the way for safer and smarter batteries. This project also had the merit of wanting to deliver a proof of concept on a realistic timescale using limited human and financial resources. The jury also underlined Ms. Lagadec's remarkable career and her ability to think outside traditional scientific frameworks.
Partnership
The YESS Award has been made possible through a partnership of several years with the “Batteries Event” congress organized and animated by Avicenne Energy. The congress brings together specialists of batteries technologies (Pb, Li-ion and beyond), of batteries applications (from the micro scale to grid storage) and of the value chain (from manufacturers to end-users).
